Biography
Maple treats an unfamiliar sound the way most prey animals do -- freeze first, assess second, bolt only if the first two don't resolve things fast enough. She investigates anything new in her space slowly and from a safe distance before ever approaching it directly, and settles fastest in a room that hasn't changed since yesterday. Her size doesn't make her braver than a rabbit half as big; if anything, a startle takes longer to fade.
